Get To Know Us
Established in 1972 and driven by the passion of owner-operators Richard and Nancy Fraser, Fraser's Thimble Farms has spent over 50 years growing from a simple plant stand selling flowers into the woodland specialty farm it is today.

Water Conservation
Born on the island and raised on the same property on which the farm sits, Richard knows the land (and its water needs) inside and out. Water conservation efforts have been part of life at the farm since day one because they would often run out of water during the summers when he was a kid. Now, Fraser's Thimble Farms is the most efficient farm of its type in BC. Wondering how we do it? Well...

Ponds
Catchment ponds were first created in the late 1970s and ‘80s. Rainwater is taken off buildings' roofs and funnelled down to the ponds.
In September 2016 we expanded an existing pond and lined it, adding roughly 50,000 gallons of water storage capacity.
Shade
We use over 6000 feet of shade structures in addition to the naturally shaded areas of the farm to protect plants from harsh summer sun.
Strategic Watering
We do a few things to be strategic about our water use, such as "waiting for wilt before watering, rooting some plants directly into the ground to reduce their watering needs, and moving plants closer together in smaller areas so we can water as efficiently as possible.
